The leading-edge urban project, on the Heysel plateau, launched by the city of Brussels aims to boost and diversify attractivity in the North of Europe’s capital city where the Atomium and the King Baudoin stadium are located.

This unique site, which welcomes more than 5 million visitors a year, is a top tourist strategic point. Today, the main challenge is to create a new living area by combining all the existing economic pillars: build affordable housing and redefine what a tourism, leisure and shopping destination is.

The project brings together a commercial center of 72,000 m², hotels and restaurants on more than 9,000 m², cinemas, leisure areas spread over 15,000 m². Europea will also feature 575 housing units on 57,500 m², two daycares, a retirement residence, office areas with 3,700 parking spaces and 1,200 spots for soft traffic modes.

Europea’s architectural disposition consists in creating an inhabited hill: a residential park and public spaces on more than 3 hectares providing shops and leisure activities. The project is imagined as a real urban garden designed by the landscapers Gustafson Porter + Bowman. This garden city incorporated apartment buildings is  punctuated by green spaces, games for children, water animations.

These new spaces and walks foster soft mobility and unite the site between the Roi-Baudouin and Heysel metro stops.
